Get paid to learn a trade. Finish with a career, not a loan.
The Insulators Local 14 Training Center runs a five-year, paid apprenticeship in Philadelphia for people who want a skilled union career without student debt. Apprentices earn a wage from their first day on the job, learn at our Hornig Road training center, and graduate with a Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry credential and a job already waiting. [CONFIRM]
92% complete the program · 100% placed in the trade · Approved by PA L&I since 1969 · $0 tuition [CONFIRM all]
Three reasons people choose this trade
No student debt
You are paid to train, not charged for it. There is no tuition and no application fee. Five years from now you will have a credential, a pension that is already growing, and nothing to pay back. How the math works
Build the data center era
Data centers are the biggest construction story in Pennsylvania in a generation, and none of them run without the chilled-water lines, refrigeration piping, and ductwork that insulators finish. If you want to be inside that story, this is the trade that puts you there. Insulators and data centers
Save energy. Protect the grid
Every pipe and duct an insulator finishes correctly is energy a building does not have to buy. With the regional grid under strain from new demand, the trade that cuts energy use at the source is not a nice-to-have. It is infrastructure. Why insulation matters
What does a mechanical insulator do?
Mechanical insulators install and maintain insulation on the systems that heat, cool, and move fluids through hospitals, data centers, pharmaceutical plants, power facilities, refineries, and high-rise buildings. The work controls temperature, prevents energy loss, stops condensation, protects against fire, and keeps people safe around hot and cold surfaces. It is skilled, respected, and in demand.
